Our homes are currently bursting with geometric patterns and shapes, which is handy as it is a design trend that never really goes out of fashion.

The Persimmon Homes Nottingham team opted to accentuate, this chic design, pattern perfectly, in its Longthorpe four-bedroom show home at Hawkers Place, in Hucknall.

Often geometric patterns are considered to be sharp defined lines but that’s not necessary the case, it’s more about forming a collection of geometric shapes, repeated or altered into a collective design. They can be two or three dimensional, angular or smooth as an arc. The versatility of patterns and shapes is what keeps this so universally popular in design interiors.

The bedroom at Hawkers Place demonstrates how a series of shapes can create a modern and yet striking result. A repeating pattern of hexagons is featured on the bedding and reflected in varying sized mirrors hung on the wall. Combining a collection of geometric abstract works of arts, in a range of sizes, colours and shapes, creates an intricate but harmonising look which is accentuated by a pale coloured wall.

Meanwhile, in one of the other double bedrooms, geometric patterns and shapes are used to emphasise a focal point. A prominent stitched sunburst design headboard is married with a striking dark blue wall.

Industrial bare bulb sidelights and long rectangular mirrors finish the dramatic effect, further demonstrating the flexibility of geometric patterns with other design styles.

Different shapes can evoke different meanings and the use of hexagons can be considered to communicate unity and balance. Since honeycombs are hexagonal in shape this supports the shape’s psychology of collaboration – a perfect décor for use in a home office interior.

The ultimate role of geometric patterns in our homes is more of an accent and should not be overdone. Less is definitely more as it doesn’t take much to create that unique design style that will get your room noticed.
