Work is beginning on a new housing development being launched in Whittlesey which will provide much-needed homes in the area while supporting around 900 local jobs.
Persimmon Homes East Midlands is developing Hartley Grange, in Delph Road, which will provide 220 homes with a range of two, three and four-bedroom properties.
Section 106 payments totalling almost £1.75m mean Hartley Grange will also bring investment in education, libraries, transport and the environment.
The development will also support around 900 jobs, including direct staff, contractors and the wider supplier network.
The Home Builders’ Federation estimates 4.3 jobs are created for every new home built*, both directly in the construction industry and through the supply chain, which is also a support to the local economy.
Nick Phillips, director in charge of Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said: “As well as having the opportunity of providing much needed homes we are pleased to be creating jobs in construction and the supply chain which brings a boost to Cambridgeshire’s economy and the region overall.”
Work on the infrastructure for the £30.5m development has already begun and it is expected the first homes will be available in late spring/ early summer 2021.
Nova Eames, sales director at Persimmon Homes East Midlands, said: “Whittlesey is an attractive market town on the western edge of the Fens and just six miles from Peterborough, and is a perfect location for our exciting development of traditional-style properties.”
“We are still very much in the early stage of the development, but I would encourage people interested in living in this charming area to register their interest now as we expect huge interest once the homes are under construction.”
As well as delivering 220 much needed homes, 10 per cent of which will be affordable, Hartley Grange will offer 20 acres of public open space, a children’s play area, two balancing ponds and extensive planting including trees, shrubs and hedges.
