Bakers’ fundraising boosted by builder

A baking mother and daughter from Denmead, who have been fundraising for Dementia UK, have been given a £500 donation from Persimmon South Coast.

Nicola Sarjeant, whose mother Audrey was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia six years ago, applied for the Community Champions scheme which provides funding to charities and local good causes.

The pair have been baking for the construction workers on the new homes development where Nicola lives, to help keep Audrey’s mind active and to raise money to help other people suffering with dementia. The builders on site have already donated £95 to the cause.

Graeme Cole, sales director for Persimmon South Coast, said: “Our Community Champions scheme was launched to help organisations who make a genuine difference to the lives of people living in the communities where we are building.

“With Nicola living at one of the sites constructed by our sister brand, Charles Church, we were touched to hear about her kindness towards our workers and we are so pleased to be able to help with her fundraising.”

Nicola explains that although her mother does not need too much assistance from the service now, it is likely she will in the future.

She said: “We are so grateful for the donation from Persimmon Homes. Dementia UK is a charity very close to my heart. The donation will make a huge difference to families just like my own allowing those suffering to maintain independence.”

Persimmon Homes South Coast offers two donations of up to £1,000 every month as part of its Community Champions Scheme.
