Bridgend youth club handed cash boost

A Bridgend youth club is celebrating after receiving a funding boost from Persimmon.

Wildmill Youth Club, on Wildmill Estate, has received £800 through our Community Champions scheme. Each and every month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK.

Wildmill is a volunteer-led youth club for children aged seven to 16. The club provides a wide range of activities for young people, including arts, cooking, gardening, willow weaving, circus skills, bike maintenance and street dance.

Debbie Davies, of Wildmill, said: “This donation is a huge boost for us. We’re a very active youth club with sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays and three sessions a week during school holidays.

“We do small fundraising events but to receive a donation like this is a great news and will be well appreciated by all of our young people.”

Sharon Bouhali, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We’re pleased to be able to support Wildmill Youth Club with this donation through our long-running Community Champions initiative.

“It’s often said that young people struggle to engage in worthwhile activities because youth clubs have closed in their droves. We are fortunate to have a number of good youth clubs in our area, with Wildmill certainly falling into that category.

“We really appreciate the hard work of the volunteers in keeping this club going and hope this donation will give them a boost.”

Persimmon has a brand new development in Bridgend. The first homes at Llys Ystrad, on Llangewydd Road, have just been released for sale, with prices from £184,995.
