Builder's support for pre-school outdoor play area

Tiny tots aged between two and four will be enjoying a mud kitchen and growing their own fruit and veg thanks to a donation from Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

Our Lady of the Wayside Pre-School in Solihull has been granted £968 by Persimmon Homes South Midlands, allowing them to continue to enhance children’s learning experiences by improving the outdoor areas.

Ann-Marie Brady, the pre-school manager, said: “We are currently extending our outside area to have an outdoor classroom which will provide a focused learning and activity area.

“Some of our Pre-School children do not have access to a garden at home and we would like our outdoor space to offer the chance to enjoy being outside, fostering a love of the great outdoors and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle for life.

“We would like to buy a wooden mud kitchen, utensils and discovery table and two grow houses. The first to encourage imaginative play and the grow houses to enable the children to grow more fruit and vegetables, nurture the plants and enjoy what is grown.”

Ann-Marie added that the children have taken part in a sponsored bunny bounce to help boost their funds.

Persimmon Homes South Midlands head of sales Amanda Rogers said: “We are delighted to donate this money to the Our Lady of the Wayside Pre-School.  It’s evident that the organisers and the children have worked hard to fundraise for themselves and we wanted to give them a helping hand.”

The housebuilder’s national match-funding programme Community Champions seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life for local people.

Each month the Studley-based builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year.
