A community garden in East Leeds has secured a £1,000 donation to support its upkeep.
The 2 Way Street Project, part of the Learning Partnerships charity, received the donation from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, through its Community Champions scheme.
The Leeds charity, which aims to improve peoples’ skills, experience and life chances through a variety of projects, provides gardening sessions at its community garden in Nowell Mount. The Persimmon Homes donation will fund a gardening supervisor role as well as gardening materials.
Susan Docherty organiser of the 2 Way Street Project said: “Persimmon Homes’ donation is wonderful news for the community. Our garden is a thriving green space in an urban area where people can appreciate nature, learn about gardening and grow their own produce.
“This has been a valuable outdoor space during the lockdown and a garden supervisor will enable us to further nurture the ground and help encourage more people to enjoys its benefits.”
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities in the areas where it is building.
Christopher Hull, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire said: “As we build new communities, we are very pleased to support projects that help encourage greater unity. We are delighted to be supporting the work of the 2 Way Street Project.”
