An Essex family has welcomed support from Persimmon Homes after receiving a £1,000 donation to help fund vital treatment for their four-year-old daughter.
Imelda Mower has a chromosome disorder so rare that she is unique. This has left her unable to walk, crawl and talk yet. Her mother, Rachel Mower, applied for the funding available through the Persimmon Homes Essex, Community Champions initiative to help cover the cost of a range of therapies Imelda needs to improve her overall health and mobility.
Imelda’s mother, Rachel Mower, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from Persimmon Homes Essex, it will help to cover the cost of an intensive block of therapy to help Imelda develop her mobility and independence.”
“She is a very determined little girl, and I am extremely proud of her and the way she gets on with her regular therapies with a smile on her face. Imelda is under the care of many teams locally and consultants at Great Ormond Street Hospital, the specialists can't predict what the future holds.
“When Imelda was born, we didn’t know much about her conditions and we are still finding out more now. We had no idea what we were facing, and we still don’t know what’s ahead. What we do know is that she will need a lot of help with the lifelong conditions she has.
“These conditions such as her decreased muscle tone, Dyskinesia (movement disorder), Progressive Infantile Scoliosis and kidney disease are life long and she will have to learn to manage with them. Alongside this Imelda copes with her vision and hearing impairments. The best way to help Imelda manage is with therapy and equipment.
“The therapies she needs aren’t available on the NHS and we do what we can to raise funding. Donations like this one make a huge difference and remind us that people really do want to help Imelda reach her full potential and for that we are incredibly grateful.”

Richard Hush, managing director for Persimmon Homes Essex said: “It is our pleasure to support Imelda through our Community Champions initiative. It is clear that they are a very special family and that they do everything they can to help their little girl.
“This is exactly the kind of cause that the Community Champions initiative was set up to help in the communities where we are building, and we wish the family the best of luck with future fundraising.” “Applicants that have not been successful on their first attempt for funding are welcome to re-apply as many times as they wish.”
Persimmon Homes Essex are currently building a range of new two, three, four and five-bedroom homes at their nearby Copperfield Place development on Hollow Lane in Broomfield.
