An outdoor activity centre that provides adventures for thousands of young people every year has been selected to receive £1,000 of funding from Persimmon Homes.

The cash boost for Beaudesert Outdoor Activity Centre, in Rugeley, comes through the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme, which supports grassroots voluntary groups and charities in the areas where the company is building.

Centre spokesman Jeremy David said: “Our purpose is to develop young people allowing them to fulfil their potential. We do this by providing wonderful parklands and adventurous activities, which we’ve been doing since 1939.

“During covid-19, the centre was forced to shut down. During this, we used all of our reserves whilst maintaining our grounds and therefore need to replace some worn out equipment. The money from Persimmon Homes will allow us to do that.”

The centre hosts visits from groups such as Scouts, Guides and young people undertaking National Citizenship Service whilst keeping costs and charges as low as possible. For more information about the opportunities created at the centre visit www.beaudesert.org

Persimmon Homes West Midlands makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities in the areas where it is building.

David Greengrass, head of sales of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “Our Community Champions programme allows us to support many different charities and help the community where we are building.”

Groups working with the under-18s can also apply to the company’s Building Futures scheme, which is set to give away more than £1million.
