Prader-Willi charity secures Persimmon donation

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, a charity that supports children affected by this rare, complex genetic disorder, has been given a £1,000 boost.

The donation will help fund a number of outdoor events for children with the condition and has been made by Persimmon Homes North Midlands through its Building Futures campaign.

Karen Wilkinson, from the Association, said: “We offer support to anyone with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS), their family, friends and those that care for them. We offer a range of services including a helpline, training, research and information.”

“We have been in operation for almost 40 years and are the only charity supporting PWS which is a lifelong condition. We are in touch with 68% of the PWS community and have 881 members.

“We are delighted to receive this donation from Persimmon Homes, which we will use to support a range of WalkOver PWS events for children and their families around the UK. These events, around 4k, feel like a marathon to a child with low muscle tone, but give them a great sense of achievement.”

Nadine O’Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We’re delighted to support this small, national charity and the amazing work they do.”

“Building Futures is all about helping young people and youth groups in our area. We’re accepting entries until mid-August so we’d urge more people to apply by visiting the Persimmon Homes website.”
