A Weston-super-Mare theatre group for young people has been handed funding to help launch a new sign language choir.
Fly High Theatre Inclusive Performing Arts CIC is a small theatre group that encourages children and young people of all abilities to access the performing arts.
The group has been handed a £800 boost from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.
The funding comes as part of our Community Champions initiative, which sees 64 good causes across Great Britain awarded up to £1,000 every month.
Jo Wilkes, director of Fly High Theatre Inclusive Performing Arts CIC, said: “We’re thrilled to receive this funding from Persimmon Homes.
“We have always raised funds through our shows but we haven’t been able to deliver a performance since March 2020, so our income has been hit hard.
“As the country opens back up, we are raising money to enable us to offer additional sessions, including an inclusive choir that incorporates sign singing in BSL.
“It’s fantastic to see Persimmon engaging with the local community in this way.”
Carly Spear, sales director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Fly High Theatre Inclusive Performing Arts CIC.
“So many well-established and respected community groups have struggled through the pandemic. It’s great to be able to give them a boost through Community Champions.”
Persimmon Homes is currently building stunning new homes at The Beeches development in Weston-super-Mare, which is part of the Haywood Village project.
