Bridgwater children's charity receives £1,000 award

Brainwave, a national children’s charity based in Bridgwater, has received a £1,000 funding boost thanks to Community Champions.

Keith Sinclair from Brainwave explains: “We provide ‘life changing’ therapies for disabled children which are individually designed to help ‘unlock their potential’. This could be anything from enabling a child to walk or feed themselves, through to being able to count or form sentences, where they have not been able to before.

“We have a dedicated, multi-disciplinary therapy team which predominantly works with children from birth to 12 years old, who have a range of conditions and diagnoses including; Cerebral Palsy, developmental delay, Autism, brain injury, Down’s Syndrome and other genetic conditions, as well as children with no formal diagnosis at all.

“What makes our work unique is that we develop a bespoke therapy programme specifically tailored to each individual child''s needs. We then work with the family, parents, and carers to carry this out at the child’s home, returning in four to six months for a reassessment to check how they are doing, making tweaks to the programme if necessary.

“We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for this funding which will go towards the costs of providing support to a family in the South West to access an initial assessment and associated equipment to carry this out at home.”

Stacey Harris, sales director at our South West region, said: “Brainwave is a brilliant South West based charity which does some fantastic work with disabled children in our region. We are pleased to be able to provide them with some additional funding to support their activities.”
