A creative art group in South Yorkshire that supports adults with learning disabilities, autism or both has secured a donation from us for a new art installation in Rotherham.

ArtWorks South Yorkshire has received £900 from our Community Champions scheme to create an artistic feature at the respite centre, Conway Crescent.

Dominika Rojewska for ArtWorks SY said: “This is wonderful news for our community. We support more than 80 artists with learning disabilities, autism or both who have been involved in the design process for the artwork. Art, in its many forms, offers an expressive avenue for our artists to explore and achieve their potential. Our artists are keen to demonstrate their artistic talent and projects like this enable them to reveal their skills to a wider audience which could support their future career aspirations.

“Conway Crescent provides a safe environment for adults with learning disabilities to enjoy a short break while also giving their families and carers a rest from their day-to day responsibilities. We hope that the new artwork will help create a relaxing environment for all residents at Conway Crescent, and maybe inspire their own creativity.”

The Community Champions scheme donates up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK every month with each of the 30 regional businesses, plus Persimmon Plc, awarding up to £1,000 to two worthy causes each month.

Richard Hosie managing director from Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, said: “ArtWorks SY provides such a valuable service to the South Yorkshire community.  We are very pleased to support their latest project.”
