Wessex region donates land to project celebrating Queen's Jubilee

A local charity working with residents and community groups in Wiltshire is the latest recipient of funding from our Wessex region.

Wessex region has donated a piece of land and a £1,000 grant to The Big Community Grow as it continues to help local groups and charities in the area.

At Persimmon we donate up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.

The charity supports and develops projects in schools and other settings to bring communities together through sustainably growing and preparing their own produce.

Melanie Jacob, founding director at The Big Community Grow, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Persimmon Homes because this donation will benefit so many local people.

“Our project will create a pictorial meadow area on Leap Gate, as well as a nature trail around Trowbridge, to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and bring residents together.

“The meadow area will be an attractive feature and it will also encourage wildlife to the area which has huge environmental benefits.

“We’ve successfully applied to Trowbridge Area Board for 50% of project costs and have contributions in kind from Trowbridge Town Council, but this support from Persimmon Homes will help us fund flower seed and waymarkers for the projects.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales director for our Wessex, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting The Big Community Grow by donating a strip of land as well as our Community Champions donation this month.

“When we first heard from Melanie about transforming the area off Leap Gate into a Jubilee Meadow, we thought it was a great idea and couldn’t wait to get involved.

“We believe it will create an attractive display and we’re also excited to see the designs being created by local children for plaques that will explain how and why the area has been created.”
