Durham based charity, The Cheesy Waffles Project (CWP), has secured a funding boost from our Durham team.
Members of the Cheesy Waffles team welcomed our Managing Director, Ed Alder and Councillor Ted Henderson of Durham County Council, to their Belmont headquarters to receive a cheque for £1,000.
The funding was secured after the charity applied to our Community Champions initiative which provides £180,000 of funding to local charities and community groups every quarter.
The CWP is a registered charity for children, young people and adults, supporting communities across County Durham. They provide a range of activities from dance and fitness to cooking and educational sessions, as well as organising regular trips for their members.
Regular activities allow members to develop their independence, learn new skills and form valuable new friendships, whilst also giving respite to carers, who are often family members.
Durham region donation will go toward the day-to-day running costs of the charity, which relies on donations and funding to purchase resources and provide all activities.
Bryce Denholm, Manager at Cheesy Waffles, commented: “This fantastic donation will make a huge difference to our project and its members.
“It will be used to develop opportunities for children and young people with additional needs to engage in new sports, enjoy new experiences and visit new places.
“Thank you to Persimmon for supporting our mission of developing opportunities for people with additional needs.”
Councillor Ted Henderson, Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People's Services, said: “It was great to visit the Cheesy Waflles project in Belmont recently, their staff provide an amazing resource for local people with additional needs, and it was brilliant to see how much it means to their members.
“I am glad to see a business who operates locally, such as Persimmon, supporting local community groups and investing in our communities.”
Ed Alder, Managing Director for Persimmon Durham, added: “We are delighted to be able to support some amazing local charities through our Community Champions scheme.
“Organisations, such as Cheesy Waffles, make a huge difference to so many local people and play an integral role in their communities.
“It was a pleasure to visit Cheesy Waffles in person and see first-hand the amazing work they do; I wish them every success for the future.”
If you or someone you know are interested in registering with the CWP and benefiting from membership to an inclusive and welcoming community, all you need to do is apply via the online form.
Local charities, sports clubs and community groups are encouraged to apply to Community Champions, which provides £180,000 of funding every quarter.
Over the last two years, the scheme has donated over £1.35 million to over 1,400 local organisations across the country, with winners receiving either £6,000, £5,000 or £1,000.
