Local home builder donates materials to Dundee and Angus College

Persimmon Homes has donated over 6,000 bricks to Dundee and Angus College to support the next generation of construction workers.

Persimmon’s Regional Construction Director, Alan Prickett, was joined by local councillor Lynne Short to hand over the materials to staff and students at the college’s Kingsway Campus.

The donation of bricks will support construction students to complete skills tests and create models in the classroom, allowing students more time on the tools whilst at college.

The home builder, which delivered more than 1,500 new energy-efficient homes across Scotland last year, make their own bricks at their state-of-the-art factory in Doncaster, which can produce over 72 million bricks per year – enough to stretch from Dundee to Dubai and back again.

Cllr Lynne Short, Depute Convener of Neighbourhood Regeneration, Housing and Estate Management, said:

"It is always a great pleasure to meet with young people in the city and those partners that wish to support them with their careers.

“We need housing in the city and to have opportunities for the builders of the future to be homegrown is an exciting prospect.”

William Smith, Persimmon’s Regional Apprenticeship Manager, said:

“I’m delighted we’re able to donate these much-needed materials and support the fantastic work Dundee and Angus College does to develop the next generation of construction professionals.

“Persimmon is committed to creating exciting opportunities for everyone in the areas where we operate and working with local colleges is a great way of supporting the local community.”
