North East region supports rugby star Kenny Logan’s 700-mile challenge for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

Our North East office has donated £1,000 to a charity cycle in aid of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation lead by ex-Scotland Rugby Union international Kenny Logan.

North East Managing Director and fellow ex-Scotland and Newcastle Falcons player, Stuart Grimes, was on hand to present the £1,000 to Kenny and his supporting cyclists, which included former Scotland footballer Ally McCoist

Kenny recently cycled from Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, to the Stade de France, Paris where he delivered the match ball for Scotland v Ireland ahead of their World Cup pool B clash alongside Doddie Weir’s son, Hamish.

Weir, who set up the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation along with some trustees in 2017, passed away last November after living with Motor Neurone Disease for six years.

All proceeds from Kenny’s challenge, currently sitting at over £550,000, will go to the foundation which funds research into the currently incurable Motor Neurone Disease as well as offering support to individuals and families living with MND.

Kenny Logan said: “It takes a phenomenal level of organisation and work to make an event like this happen, it was a once in a lifetime experience.

“The backing from our supporters and sponsors, especially from the likes of Persimmon Homes, makes me very grateful and shows how much Doddie means to everyone.”

Stuart Grimes, Persimmon North East Managing Director, added: “I was delighted to catch up and be able to support Kenny on his cycle from Murrayfield to Paris.

“Doddie was a close friend and team mate for both of us and I’ll continue to support his Charity in the future.”

Our Community Champions scheme is open to all local charities, schools and community groups looking for funding with winners receiving between £1,000 and £6,000.
