Cornwall and West Devon supports Cornwall family charity

Our Cornwall and West Devon region have donated £2,000 to a Bodmin-based charity which helps new and young families battling isolation and mental health challenges in Cornwall.

Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon presented the cheque to Home-Start Kernow’s Chief Executive, Jo Scrimgeour, at Bodmin Family Centre as part of our Community Champions programme.

Home-Start Kernow have been supporting babies, children, and their parents across Cornwall for over 20 years, providing support by training volunteers who support families in their own homes and at groups.

The charity offers free, confidential support, friendship, and practical help to parents of children under five in Cornwall going through a difficult time.

A carefully selected volunteer, who has parenting experience themselves, regularly visits a family, in their own home, offering emotional and practical support through difficult times for as long as it is helpful or needed. This friendly parent-to-parent support is a simple yet effective way of enabling families to get back on track.

Our Community Champions initiative sees £24,000 donated to good causes and much-valued organisations across Cornwall and West Devon every year. Recent recipients include Bodmin Town Band and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Commenting, Persimmon Homes Cornwall & West Devon Sales Director Jane Cartwright said:

“Home-Start Kernow is a great charity that does some really essential work in Cornwall and is very worthy winner of our Community Champions programme.

“Persimmon has been active in Bodmin over many years and we’re proud to continue our tradition of helping out local organisations in the area as part of our commitment to leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the areas in which we develop.

“We wish Home-Start Kernow the best of luck going into the future and hope our donation assists them in delivering help to those who need it.”

Home-Start Kernow Chief Executive, Jo Scrimgeour, added:

“We’re delighted that we were successful in our application for Persimmon’s Community Champions scheme and are grateful for their support.

“Our services have never been needed more as the cost-of-living rises, and we want to help more families, never wanting to turn families away, so these funds will go a long way in helping us deliver on our aspirations.

“We are raising money so that more families can access our support and more babies and young children can have a better start in life, so we thank Persimmon for their support.”
