Toolbox talk for primary pupils in Kilwinning

Pupils at St Luke’s Primary School in Kilwinning hosted local construction experts to talk about health and safety.

Our West Scotland team paid a visit to St Luke’s Primary School in Kilwinning to talk to students and staff about the importance of health and safety around construction sites.

Persimmon West Scotland recently began work on their Byrehill Grange development in Kilwinning, where 426 new high-quality homes will regenerate the site of a former industrial estate.

Construction Manager, Laurence Watson, and Contracts Manager, James McCarron, who are overseeing the local development, spoke to pupils about what is involved in building new homes and highlighted the importance of staying a safe distance from construction sites.

As part of the visit, pupils were given copies of ‘Cones and Building Homes’ – a children’s book commissioned by Persimmon to teach children about health and safety and introduce them to the world of work in the construction sector.

Laurence Watson, Persimmon West Scotland Construction Manager, said:

“Health and safety is a top priority for us, which is why it was great to have the opportunity to visit St Luke’s and talk to pupils about what happens on a construction site and the importance of staying safe.

“The pupils were a credit to their school and I hope the books we donated will inspire some of them to think about a career in construction in the future.”
