West Midlands announces partnership with Wrekin Housing Group

A range of high-quality homes will help local people in housing need, following the completion of a project involving our West Midlands tea and Wrekin Housing Group.

A total of 35 new homes, developed by the team at its Hadley Gate development in the town are being transferred to Wrekin Housing Group who will own and manage the homes as the developer’s housing association partner.

The handover was marked by a visit to the development by Cllr Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement at Telford and Wrekin Council, Persimmon Homes West Midlands Technical Director Lee Perry, Wayne Gethings, CEO at Wrekin Housing Group and Simon Thompson, Director of Development at Wrekin Housing Group.

Cllr Richard Overton (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement, said: “We are really pleased to see this development complete which offers a mix of homes to meet the needs of Telford’s families.

“Housing is one of our key priorities in Telford and Wrekin and part of our commitment to protect, care and invest – creating a better borough for all our residents.”

Wayne Gethings, Group Chief Executive at Wrekin Housing Group, said: “We’re really pleased to be working with Persimmon to deliver these homes in Telford and Wrekin which will help meet the demand for good quality, affordable homes in the area. The development gives more people the chance to have a place they’re proud to call home.

“As in most places across the country, the demand for affordable housing across Telford and Wrekin far outweighs supply. At Wrekin, we are committed to creating places where people can live, work and thrive. Our partnership with Persimmon will allow us to both support and help create many more communities in Telford and Wrekin.”

Lee Perry, Technical Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “Handing over a portion of our homes at Hadley Gate is the latest example of our successful partnership with Wrekin Housing Group which is delivering much-needed affordable homes for local families across the West Midlands. It was great to welcome Cllr Overton, Wayne and Simon to the site to see the positive impact these homes are having in the region.

“We’re continuing to work hard to prioritise quality and affordability for all our customers. As well as the homes which have now been transferred, the average price of a Persimmon home is 25% below the market average in England and Wales – extending the opportunity of home ownership to more local families.

“We’ll continue to work closely with our local partners to ensure our investment makes a positive difference to communities.”
