Local School Celebrates £6,000 Outdoor Learning Boost

A primary school in Wednesbury has secured a £6,000 donation from Persimmon, helping them to expand their outdoor space.

Elm Tree Primary Academy received the funding boost from Persimmon Homes Central as part of its Community Champions initiative.

The school specialises in education for autistic children with additional learning needs. The funds from Persimmon Homes will enable the group to build outside sensory play areas, helping the pupils to engage in outdoor learning.

The donation was marked by a visit to the school by Councillor Peter Hughes from Sandwell Council and Paul Coles, Operations Director at Persimmon Homes Central.

Councillor Peter Hughes, Sandwell Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Infrastructure, said: “On behalf of the council, I welcome the support Persimmon has given to such a deserving cause. The social value of this donation can only impact positively on the local community.”

Beth Barnsley, Head Teacher at Elm Tree Elm Tree Primary Academy: “This generous donation will go towards designing and developing our outdoor sensory garden area which will aid pupils' regulation, wellbeing, special interests and life skills. It will be a wonderful addition to our provision, and we can’t wait to see the completed design in a few months’ time.”

Paul Coles, Operations Director at Persimmon Homes Central, said: “What we do is about much more than just building homes, it’s about leaving a lasting impact in the communities that we build in.
