Graduate Management Trainee Max Jukes spent a day volunteering at Lord’s Cricket Ground – and saw how the Persimmon Charitable Foundation is supporting Chance to Shine’s mission of giving all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket.
Max took part in the charity’s World Cup on Wednesday, 20th May. The event saw hundreds of children take to the main pitch to compete in skills challenges and an inter-school games competition.
With 12 schools taking part in the event, Max was responsible for chaperoning a class of 30 children from Abbey View Primary Academy in High Wycombe and their teacher to their activities.
The opportunity to volunteer with Chance to Shine follows a donation of £10,000 made to the charity from the Persimmon Charitable Foundation earlier this year. Each year, the national charity delivers cricket sessions in around a quarter of state primary schools across England and Wales and runs more than 300 free street cricket clubs in under-served communities, supporting over 600,000 young people.
Max, who has played for Avoncroft Cricket Club in Bromsgrove since he was 15, was keen to take part – and to visit Lord’s for the first time. He said: “It was good to see all these kids enjoying themselves and playing cricket – something they might not always get a chance to do.”
