Hospice that makes a ‘profound’ difference celebrates funding boost

A hospice in Nottingham that makes a “profound” difference in people’s lives has welcomed a funding boost from Nottingham region.

Nottinghamshire Hospice received a £5,000 donation from the Nottingham region after applying to its Community Champions initiative.

The donation will go towards helping patients and families receiving end of life care in their homes.

Councillor Leslie Ayoola was recently on-hand with Persimmon to present the cheque to the hospice.

Rachel Hucknall, Nottinghamshire Hospice Chief Executive, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes for their support of our Hospice In Your Home service.

“Their grant will bring care directly into patients’ homes so they can stay at home at the end of life.

“For some of our patients this means staying in a home filled with 40 years of memories, for others it will mean they can have their beloved dog on their bed at the end of their life, and for all our patients it means they can have the care they deserve. Thank you to Persimmon Homes for helping make this possible."

Councillor Leslie Ayoola said: “This is a hugely welcome and generous donation from Persimmon Homes, and I want to thank them for recognising the vital role Nottinghamshire Hospice plays in our community.

“The Hospice provides compassionate, dignified care for people at the most difficult time in their lives, and this £5,000 contribution will make a real difference by helping to expand overnight care so more patients can remain at home with their loved ones.

“It’s encouraging to see local businesses supporting organisations that have such a profound impact on residents and families, not only in Mapperley ward but also across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.”

Gareth Hankin, Persimmon Nottingham Managing Director, said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Nottinghamshire Hospice and learn about the valuable work they are doing to support people in the community.

“We’re proud to support them and we hope this donation goes far to help support patients and families.”
