Steve Lewis, site manager at the Glan y Coed development in Cardiff, has been honoured by the National House Building Council (NHBC) with the prestigious Pride in the Job Quality Award, recognising his exceptional dedication to home construction.
He is one of several of our site managers to receive the prestigious award in 2026, marking another year of recognition for the company’s commitment to quality. Glan y Coed is the Charles Church outlet at Persimmon’s site in northwest Cardiff, The Parish.
This marks Steve’s second such award after winning it three years ago for his work at Persimmon’s East Haven site in Barry. Steve has been with the business for nine years, having previously worked on-site all over the UK as a carpenter. He entered the trade after leaving school at 16, giving him over two decades of experience in construction.
The Pride in the Job competition is highly regarded in the homebuilding industry, serving as a benchmark for outstanding quality and performance among site managers.
All site managers on NHBC Buildmark warranty-registered sites are eligible to compete. Quality Award winners advance to the Seal of Excellence Award stage, with the opportunity to compete for Regional Awards and the ultimate Pride in the Job Supreme Awards in January 2027.
Steve shared his thoughts on the recognition, stating:
“It’s an honour to receive this award and have the work I put in at Charles Church’s Glan y Coed site in Cardiff recognised by the industry.
“I love being a site manager, pulling together a team to deliver a development – this is not just a project commissioned by an employer, but an essential objective to tackle the country’s housing crisis, building high-quality homes for local people.”
Lee Hawker, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes and Charles Church in East Wales, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Steve and prestigious recognition that highlights not only his personal performance, but also the strength of teamwork, attention to detail, and quality culture we continue to build across our projects.
“Achievements such as this set the benchmark for excellence and reinforce our reputation within the industry, so I commend Steve on another well-earned award.”
