Young paddlers get £1,000 boost ahead of European challenge

A group of young British athletes is stepping up its preparations for a major international competition.

The Great Britain Under 18 Dragon Boat squad has received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes to support its journey towards the 2026 European Championships.

The team is self-funded, with athletes and their families covering the costs of training, travel and competition. The donation will help ease that financial burden and ensure the squad can continue preparing at the highest level of the sport.

Paul Freemantle of the Great Britain Under 18 Dragon Boat team said: “We are incredibly grateful to Persimmons Homes for their generous donation towards the Great Britain under 18 dragon boat squad as we prepare for the 2026 European Championships.

“As a self funded endeavour, every contribution is vital and this support will not only ease the financial burden on the young athletes and their families, but also empowers them to train, travel and compete at the highest level of the sport. This is more than just funding, it belief in their potential.”

Nadine O’Dowd Sales Director for Persimmon Homes said: “We’re proud to support the Great Britain Under 18 Dragon Boat team as they prepare to represent their country on the European stage. The dedication shown by these young athletes is inspiring, and we’re pleased our support can play a small part in helping them pursue their ambitions.”
