Anglia region helps Lowestoft twins represent England in international martial arts competition

19 April 2023

Two talented twins from Norfolk will be competing in the WBC Muay Thai Youth Championships in Italy thanks to a donation from our Anglia region.

Mimi and Mila Tyler from Hodray Muay Thai martial arts school, based in Lowestoft, have been chosen to represent England at this international competition. The twins will be up against the very best young Muay Thai athletes in the world, as they battle it out across different weight categories.

The twins have proven pedigree and are trained by their father Bin Tyler, himself a former world champion. Approximately 40 juniors and 20 adults also benefit from Bin’s expert tuition.

Hodray Muay Thai, part of Waveney Community Wellbeing, were chosen as part of our Community Champions scheme. The £1,000 donation from the region will be used to help the club cover the costs of equipment, travel and accommodation when competing in Italy.

Bin Tyler, the owner of Hodray Muai Thai martial arts school said:

“We’re incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes Anglia for their generosity and support.

“Participating in prestigious international competitions like the WBC Youth Championships is a terrific opportunity for Mimi and Mila but also comes with its own difficulties. The cost of travel and equipment pose a real challenge for clubs like ours so we’re delighted that businesses within our community are willing to help support us.”

While many may find the prospect of going up against the best Muay Thai boxers in the world daunting, the twins are no strangers to elite international competition. They recently won gold at the World Muay Thai Federation champions in Thailand and competed in Canada last year.

Jorden Knell, Head of Sales for Persimmon Homes Anglia added:

“Building communities is at the heart of what Persimmon do so we’re always keen to support brilliant local organisations like Hodray Muai Thai and their talented students.

“What Mimi and Mila have achieved already is truly remarkable and we’re delighted to play a small role in supporting them on their journey. I’m certain that this won’t be the last time we’re talking about the twins representing their country and competing at the highest level.”

Muay Thai has recently been recognised as an Olympic sport, raising the prospect of the twins one day competing at an Olympic games. We are a proud partner of Team GB and through our sponsorship of Team GB, we will help hundreds of Team GB athletes prepare and compete the Paris Olympic Games next year.
