Apprentices to build home for their own manager in Ayrshire

24 September 2025

Apprenticeship Manager places trust in his team as they begin work on his new Persimmon home.

Regional Apprenticeship Manager Ian MacPherson is putting his faith where it counts — in his own apprentices. Ian has ordered a new home at Persimmon Homes’ Snowdon Gait development in West Kilbride, and the skilled apprentices he manages will be helping to build it.

With over 49 apprentices on the tools across Scotland, Ian knows exactly who he wants bringing his home to life. Local apprentice Chantelle Muir will lay the foundations using her award-winning bricklaying skills, while Davy Mutch and Danile McNally will contribute their joinery expertise. Finally, award-winning painter Frankie O’Dea will deliver a five-star finish with his painting and decorating skills.

To mark the start of construction, Chantelle Muir joined Ian on site to lay the first brick — a symbolic moment celebrating the talent and skill of Scotland’s next generation of builders.

Ian MacPherson said:
"I have complete confidence in our apprentices — I wouldn’t be having my own home built by anyone else. Watching them develop their skills on-site every day has been inspiring, and it’s fantastic to see them putting that expertise into my new home. This project really shows the future of Scotland’s construction industry is in safe hands."

Chantelle Muir added:
"It’s amazing to be part of building Ian’s home. Being trusted with such an important project is a real honour, and it’s exciting to see our skills come together to create something that will last for years to come."

The Snowdon Gait development continues Persimmon’s commitment to building quality, energy-efficient homes while supporting local skills through its apprenticeship programme, giving young people the chance to learn, earn, and build a career in construction.
