Bank Hey masterplan takes another step forward

24 April 2023

A flagship development in Lancashire has moved closer with the submission of a planning application for up to 555 new homes.

The proposals submitted by the region will see 555 new homes delivered alongside significant highway improvements and a new primary school to be built nearby.

Allocated for housing within the Blackburn with Darwen Local Plan, the development also represents a key part of the Bank Hey masterplan.

A mix of homes will be on offer for homebuyers including terraced, semi-detached and detached properties ranging from 2 to 5 bedrooms to suit young and first-time buyers, families and downsizers.

Over 35 acres of public open spaces will be provided including large sections of retained woodland and a village green to enhance natural habitat for local wildlife. A new comprehensive cycle and footpath network will help encourage active travel.

All homes on the development will come complete with EV charging points and solar panels in line with the Future Homes Standard.

Alongside significant open spaces, two new playgrounds will also be included on the site which is expected to see construction start next year.

Andrew Laing, Land and Planning Director Persimmon Lancashire said: “It’s fantastic to be working with Blackburn and Darwen Council on the exciting plans for Bank Hey.

“This site was selected as an integral part of the Blackburn with Darwen Local Plan and will deliver significant benefits to the local area creating significant public open spaces, new cycle routes and play areas.

“We look forward to working with the Council, local residents and stakeholders to help deliver the exciting vision for this part of Blackburn.”
