Barry club bowled over by scoreboard grant
29 March 2022
New scoreboards will be erected at Barry Athletic Bowls Club after our East Wales stepped in with funding.
The club has been boosted by an £800 grant through our Community Champions initiative.
Each month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across Great Britain – including up to £4,000 in Wales.
Chris Wright, of Barry Athletic Bowls Club, said: “We badly need some new scoreboards as our current ones have a lot of damage and they’re not easy on the eye.
“They are £200 each so this generous donation from Persimmon will enable us to buy four.
“The best thing is it will help us to become more self-sustainable as a club as they have space for advertising, helping us to boost income.
“We are a very progressive outdoor bowls club that strives to be the best for our members, so this will really help.”
Victoria Williams, Sales Director at our East Wales region, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support Barry Athletic Bowls Club with this money.
“The club is 111 years old and is well valued in the local area. Bowls is a great way for people to come together and form lasting bonds.
“I’m sure these new scoreboards will be well received.”
We recently launched our final phase of development at Barry Waterfront, where around 2,000 new homes have already been built.
Known as East Haven, this phase is made up of 62 new homes.
