Boost for community facilities
25 October 2021
Two groups working to enhance the lives of local people have been awarded £1,000 each by Persimmon Suffolk.
The donations, made through the Community Champions scheme, will help to fund upgrades to the facilities at Capel Plough Football Club and Stansfield Village Hall and Playing Field.
Ian Hamilton, managing director for Persimmon Suffolk, said: “Small sports clubs and community facilities are the lifeblood of our rural towns and villages, so we are pleased to assist two such groups with funding to help them achieve the improvements they need to make.”
Stansfield Village Hall provides a vital community hub for local people, tackling rural isolation by hosting social events, fitness classes, charity events, private parties and parish meetings. The hall’s roof was in urgent need of replacement – a project expected to cost around £36,000. To find out how to support the ongoing fundraising appeal visit www.stansfieldvillage.org.uk
More than 250 children regularly play football in Capel Plough FC’s youth teams, and club officials are keen to improve changing and toilet facilities for the young players. Their building dates back to the 1970s and requires maintenance and upgrading but, like many groups, fundraising efforts have been hampered by the pandemic. Ian Hamilton added: “We make two donations of up to £1,000, every month through our Community Champions scheme and are encouraging more applications from good causes and charities across Suffolk.”
