Boxing club is 'on the front foot' following funding boost
01 February 2022

The West Warwickshire Boxing Club based in Solihull, West Midlands, is celebrating after receiving a £1,000 donation from Community Champions.
Marianne Mannion from West Warwickshire Boxing Club explains: Our club was set up to provide boxing skills, fitness training and competitive opportunities to members who are aged eight and above.
“In 2018 we became registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club and we now offer specialised training for specific groups. Some of our ongoing successful programmes include twice weekly sessions for older people living with Parkinson’s disease and weekly after school clubs for local 14 – 16 year olds. One of the key impacts of this is reducing the risk of crime and anti-social behaviour in the area near to where the club is based.
“Like so many clubs and organisations, lockdown and Covid restrictions hit us very hard as traditional fund raising events were not allowed, such as boxing shows, social club race nights and face to face raffles. Money raised through such activities would normally be used to replace our consumable equipment, which as it is used communally, becomes worn out very quickly.
“We have found ourselves in need of new items such as boxing gloves, head guards, hand wraps and skipping ropes. We are grateful to Persimmon Homes for this donation which will be used to purchase the new equipment we need and will allow us to run our current sessions in a safe and professional environment. This will also enable us to potentially set up more programmes to help other sections of the community.”
