Building buddies celebrate 20-year service milestone
25 November 2021
Two bricklayers from Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire have not only worked together for 20-years but also share similar names.
Alan Burton and Allen Fieldsend have been building houses together for more than 27 years and have dedicated the past two decades to Persimmon Homes. Describing their relationship as like an ‘old married couple’ Allen, 56, said: “You spend a lot of time at work so it’s good to be working with a mate. We joke we are like an old married couple as we know how we each work, but this is what makes it work so well.”
Having first met on a building site in Leeds, the pair moved to Persimmon Homes in 2001 originally working for the West Yorkshire regional business before moving to the South Yorkshire division, when it was launched in 2019.
Alan, added: “Brickies tend to work in gangs but this doesn’t necessary mean you stick together for as long as we have. We both joined the Persimmon South Yorkshire region as the sites were closer to home. We have a great banter and work is so much more enjoyable when you work with a mate. It’s a surprise to realise we have been at Persimmon Homes for 20 years, but don’t they say time flies when you are having fun?”
The building duo are currently constructing homes at the Hillies View development, which has been a popular site since its launch in Spring last year.
John Gledhill, construction director for Persimmon Homes South Yorkshire, said: “Alan and Allen come as a pair and work brilliantly together. They bring a lot of expertise to the team and their loyalty to the business is appreciated.”
