Cambuslang charity receive donation from West Scotland

16 October 2024

Friends of Cambuslang Park, a local charity dedicated to enhancing well-being through free community activities, is celebrating a £1,000 donation from Persimmon West Scotland.

The charity, which champions the 27-acre green space in South Lanarkshire, provides a wide range of activities designed to unite and uplift the community. In 2023 alone, over 3,000 people took part in events such as weekly outdoor play sessions for children, friendly football for adults, and the popular Family Fun Day.

The funds from Persimmon West Scotland will go towards supporting the charity's Connected Community programme, which offers year-round events such as Forest School Sessions, Silent Disco Guided Walks, and Annual Cleanup and Bulb Planting Days. These activities are vital in promoting physical activity, well-being, and social connections, especially in neighbouring areas that face socio-economic challenges.

Persimmon West Scotland Managing Director, Chris Logan was joined by local elected members, Claire Haughey MSP and Cllr Norman Rae to present the cheque to the charity.

The donation comes as part of Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative, which supports local charities and good causes where the company operates. In the past five years, the programme has seen over £360,000 distributed across Scotland to help strengthen communities.

Rutherglen MSP, Clare Haughey, said:

“Persimmon’s generosity towards Friends of Cambuslang Park is very welcome, and I know it will be much appreciated.  They’re a great organisation who do so much locally, and they continue to make such a difference to the local community.”

Fiona Murray, Friends of Cambuslang Park member, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon West Scotland for this generous donation.

“These funds will allow us to expand our Connected Community programme, bringing even more people together to enjoy and care for Cambuslang Park. The support will make a real difference, especially in helping us reach those in the community who need it most.”

Local councillor, Norman Rae, said:

“Friends of Cambuslang Park make a great contribution to the local community in Cambuslang.

“I am delighted that they have received this donation from Persimmon to support their work, it is well deserved.”

Chris Logan, Managing Director of Persimmon West Scotland, said:
"As we build new homes close to Cambuslang Park, we’re keen to support the local community by investing in initiatives that improve residents' quality of life.

“The Friends of Cambuslang Park are doing fantastic work, and we’re delighted to help them continue to make a positive impact on the area."
