Cancer charity cashes in on festive funding from Persimmon
22 December 2021
A leading national charity and expert voice for all childhood cancers has received a cash boost thanks to a donation from Persimmon Homes.
Persimmon Homes North Midlands has awarded Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) a £1,000 grant as they continue to help local groups and charities in the area.
Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives as part of the highly successful Community Champions scheme.
Each week in the UK and Ireland, more than 30 children are diagnosed with cancer. CCLG has a network of dedicated professional members that work together in treatment, care and research to help shape a future where all children with cancer survive and live happy, healthy and independent lives.
Clare Harwood, from the charity, said: “This news couldn’t have come at a better time so we’d like to extend our sincere thanks to Persimmon Homes.
“The £1,000 will contribute towards our award-winning information and resources portfolio which help to guide and support families through the most difficult time of their lives.
“We provide free booklets on a range of topics aimed at anyone who may be affected by childhood cancer or play a part in supporting a child or young person living with cancer. These include ‘A Parent’s Guide’, ‘When your brother or sister has cancer’ and ‘Supporting your pupil after a cancer diagnosis’.
“We also publish a range of picture books that help children to understand their situation and reduce fear about testing and treatment, such as ‘Ruby’s stem cell harvest and transplant’ and ‘Anna loses her hair’.
“Much of our voluntary income is raised by our beneficiaries; families living with childhood cancer. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic many of our supporters have been less able to raise funds for us due to shielding, as well as the cancellation of many fundraising events.
“We’ve been approaching Trusts and local businesses to try to fill this funding gap so we’re absolutely over the moon to have been selected by Persimmon.”
Nadine O'Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “It gives us great pleasure to be supporting Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group with our Community Champions donation.
“When we received their application it was truly inspiring to hear about all the great work they do up and down the country and with them being based in Leicestershire, we had to get involved.
“We’re only playing a small part but hopefully this funding will help the team deepen their understanding and foster collaborations to support some of the most innovative and ground-breaking research into childhood cancer.”
