Canopies will help children enjoy outdoor learning
03 May 2022

A grant of £1,000 is set to help pupils at a Sussex primary school enjoy more outdoor learning.
The Friends of Forge Wood Primary School in Crawley, successfully applied for funding from our Community Champions fund.
Caitlin Prior, who applied for the funding on the school’s behalf, said: “We are a slowly growing school on Persimmon’s Forge Wood development.
“Due to our proximity to Gatwick Airport, we face restrictions in our ability to provide natural shelter for the children playing on the playground and school field. “We are raising money to erect canopies to provide shade to enable more frequent outdoor learning. Thank you so much Persimmon Homes for supporting our cause, this is fantastic news.”
Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey started building a new community of 1,900 homes at Forge Wood in 2015, and a new primary school was provided as part of the Section 106 financial agreement. In 2017 the school was official handed over to West Sussex County Council.
A number of one and two-bedroom apartments are currently for sale at Forge Wood, with prices starting at £220,000. For more information, or to apply for Community Champions funding, visit our website www.persimmonhomes.com/community-champions
