Charity funding helps marathon effort

03 May 2019

A Northampton man who ran the London Marathon in aid of Dementia Revolution has seen his fundraising effort boosted by a housebuilder’s charity fund.

Paul Carvey scooped an extra £1,000 towards his £2,000 target thanks to the Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative. The match-funding scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region. Claire Dearsley, sales director at Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “Dementia will soon affect more than one million people in the UK, so we were proud to support Paul in his fundraising for this important cause.”

Dementia Revolution is the Charity of the Year for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon, bringing together Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK to lead the charge towards a cure for dementia. Paul Carvey said: “We lost a close family member to this terrible disease last year and saw first-hand the effect the suffering has on so many people, and in so many ways. To do my bit, I ran the London Marathon after months of training and preparation. I have been running twice a week before work and doing long runs at the weekend, as well as regular gym sessions. I am very proud to have raised £3,240 for this very important charity.”

Community Champions invites local groups and charities to bid for cash, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month. Persimmon recently launched a further funding programme – Building Futures – which focuses on support for people aged under 18 in the categories of sport, education and health. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
