Chesterfield Brownies get cash for new activities
11 January 2021
A Chesterfield Brownie unit is crafting a calendar of new activities, thanks to Persimmon Homes donation.
1st Wingerworth Brownies has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Nottingham through its Community Champions scheme.
With having to cancel Brownie meetings, and in the absence of its usual fundraising activities, the Derbyshire group was left penniless after using its existing funds to cover annual subscriptions and other basic costs just to keep the unit running.
Sarah White, from the 1st Wingerworth Brownies, said: “This donation couldn’t have come at a better time. We have been charging our members no subs or a very reduced rate, but we have reached a point where essential costs must be paid.”
“This has left us penniless and seriously questioning the future of our Brownie unit as our forthcoming sub fees will only cover our ongoing costs.”
“Our activities are essential in helping our members discover new skills and build confidence – it’s what the Brownies and Girlguiding is all about. The structure, activities and experiences that are offered through Girlguiding are extremely valuable – not only for the young members but also the Leaders, who are all volunteers.”
“Persimmon Homes’ generous donation has enabled us to plan a new and exciting programme for our members and we are extremely grateful. After the past year these future experiences are even more important for the young members in our unit, to support them in maintaining their self-esteem and keeping connected with their peers.”
Persimmon Homes Nottingham makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month to grassroots groups and charities in the areas where it is building.
Neil Follows, managing director of Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “Community Champions has allowed us to support dozens of good causes that work with the younger generation. We hope the Brownies have a fabulous time participating in their new activities.”
