Children dream up new homes development name
19 June 2018
Local school children have made their mark on village life, by naming a new development.
Students from Claydon Primary School were invited to suggest a name for the latest Persimmon Homes development, being created in Great Blakenham, and to draw their own ideal homes.
Lucy Woodhall, sales manager for Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: “Whenever we start building in a new location we try to find ways to work with the local community, and we were delighted to link up with Claydon Primary School.”
“The children have really inspired us with their dream home drawings and they helped us to settle on the perfect name for our new site – Gipping Mill, named after the River Gipping, which runs through the village.”
“Congratulations to the overall winner, Ben, and runners up Bethany, Poppy, Lyla and Connor*. Each of the children has won prize vouchers for a local toy shop in Ipswich.”
The Gipping Mill development will consist of two, three and four bedroom homes for local people, including 45 affordable homes.
Claydon Primary School head teacher Mary Ashcroft added: “We always welcome opportunities for our pupils to take an active interest in their neighbourhood and this was a lovely project which helped them to consider the built environment as well as the local culture and heritage in the village.”
“The children are excited to see Persimmon put up the signs for Gipping Mill and it will be very rewarding to know they have played their part in the history of Great Blakenham.”
The winning designs will go on display in the sales and marketing suite when the Gipping Mill development opens later in the year.
