Club is bowled over by Persimmon Homes donation

15 October 2020

A Hull bowling club has received £1,000 to help repair the clubhouse roof, ready for the winter season.

Kingston Bowling Club was chosen by Persimmon Homes Yorkshire as a beneficiary of its monthly Community Champions scheme. The match-funding initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building by giving away £1,000 to two causes each month.

The majority of the club’s members are pensioners and with its outdoor season having been disrupted, due to the current pandemic, the clubs traditional fundraising activities had been cancelled.

Di Kirby from Kingston Bowling Club, said: “Our bowling club is a social hub for the community and is good for the physical and mental wellbeing of our members, helping to prevent loneliness and social isolation.”

“The spring and summer season is our busiest time and generates most of our income. We have held a few socially distanced sessions, but it has been very limited.”

“Many of our members say that the club is their lifeline and as we head towards the winter we want to make sure our clubhouse is weather tight so, if we are allowed to play, we are ready. Persimmon Homes’ donation will help get us closer to making this possible.”

“The club is about to launch a Crowdfunding appeal so look out for details on our Twitter feed @KingstonBowling, on Facebook at Kingston Bowling Club Hull or contact Di by email at kingstonbowls@outlook.com.”

Scott Waters, deputy managing director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “Covid-19 is having a massive impact on older people, so we are pleased to support an organisation that benefits the health and wellbeing of these individuals.”

Organisations can apply for match funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
