Club is bowled over by Persimmon’s donation
02 June 2021
A Castleford bowling club has received a £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes to help keep the club open.
Savile Park Bowling Club will use the grant to cover essential fees and maintenance costs.
The Castleford club was awarded the funds from Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire through the long-running Community Champions scheme. Each month we donate up to £64,000 to worthy causes.
Graham Bickerdike for Savile Park Bowling Club said: “We normally cover our annual costs through club fees and donations, but the Covid restrictions has made this impossible."
“Persimmon Homes’ donation will enable the club to continue by helping to cover insurance costs and association fees. It will also allow us to progress our ground maintenance programme to ensure the green is ready for use."
“Bowling is good for both your physical and mental wellbeing and our members are very keen return to the game. We would also like to welcome other new members and without Persimmon’s support this would not be possible.”
Christopher Hull, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “Covid has affected the health and wellbeing of community sport group members as well as the club’s financial future, so we are very pleased to be able to support Savile Park Bowling Club. We would like to encourage other such groups to apply to our Community Champions scheme, as they could be a future beneficiary.”
