Club receives cash to stop motorbike menaces

A Swansea football club has been given a cash donation to help protect its players from motorbike menaces intent on endangering lives.

Waunarlwydd Galaxy AFC CIC has long been blighted by motorbikes and other vehicles driving around its facilities, sometimes while children have been training.

The club is hoping to raise £6,000 to build protective fencing around the pitches – and has received a £1,000 grant from Persimmon’s West Wales region.

The donation comes as part of our Community Champions scheme. Each and every month we donate up to £64,000 to good causes across the UK, including up to £4,000 in Wales.

Dean Thomas-Welch, of Waunarlwydd Galaxy AFC, said: “We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation. Our club has hundreds of playing members, the youngest of which is three and the oldest being 71.

“Unfortunately, we have experienced several near-misses with bikes that have entered our facility at speed while children have been training and playing. We want to ensure the safety of our players by installing fencing around the perimeter of the fields.

“We have raised £2,000 already, so with this donation from Persimmon means we are halfway there.”

Sharon Bouhali, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to support Waunarlwydd Galaxy AFC. This is a valued club in the local area and it’s a real shame they have this problem with motorbikes. We’re keen to see the problem solved – and this donation gets them a step closer to their fundraising goal.

“This is what our Community Champions scheme is all about – making a real, tangible difference in the local area.”

We have a new development coming soon on Aberavon seafront and also currently have homes for sale in Pontyclun, Llanelli, Bridgend and Haverfordwest.
