Community champions support for Northampton causes

09 July 2015

A charity helping families dealing with the impact of cancer and a day centre for homeless and disadvantaged people are the latest two causes to be supported by Persimmon Homes Midlands.

The regional team selected the Leon Barwell Foundation and the Northampton Hope Centre to each receive £1,000 through the Community Champions initiative.

The funding scheme aims to support local groups and charities with a pot of £24,000 of match-funding available. Organisations can apply via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

Richard Oldroyd, managing director of Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “The Community Champions scheme enables us to support groups and charities that are working to improve the lives of people living in the area, and the two chosen this month are great examples of that goal.”

The Leon Barwell Foundation, established in memory of the former Northampton Saints chairman and local businessman, supports families affected by cancer by helping them create memories that are everlasting.

The charity focus is on helping parents living day-to-day with cancer and giving them the opportunity to organise a unique family event that they will cherish. Anyone interested in supporting the cause, or requiring its help, can find out more at Leon Barwell Foundation

Northampton Hope Centre supports around 120 homeless or disadvantaged people every day, providing essential services including meals, showers and donated clothing, as well as training and development programmes to enable service users to re-integrate into mainstream society.

The centre organises regular fundraising activities such as the Big Sleepout and details of forthcoming events can be found at Northamptonshire Hope Centre

Richard added: “Sometimes we can all take for granted the people we love and the roof over our head. These two charities work tirelessly to help those who have to face life without those things.

“Community Champions aims to help groups and charities that make a real difference to the lives of local people. Both of these excellent organisations perform vital roles in our neighbourhood, so we are proud to support their endeavours.”

The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves, via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

Nationwide the company will donate a total of £750,000.

Persimmon Homes Midlands has developments throughout Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Oxfordshire.
