A community-based charity in Grimsby has received a £5,000 donation from the South Yorkshire region.
Oasis Hub South Grimsby has received the donation after applying for funding to our Community Champions scheme.
Mark Parker, Managing Director of Persimmon South Yorkshire visited the charity’s community hub to hand over a cheque for £5,000 in the presence of Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici.
Oasis Hub South Grimsby is a community charity that works with local children and families to create a safe and friendly community.
They run a range of activities and community projects, such as providing food parcels and running community projects, youth clubs and support groups for families to meet and build relationships/seek support.
The donation from the region will be used to purchase a TV, game consoles and other activities for the youth club and contribute to the hub's ongoing running costs.
During the last two years, we have donated over £1.5 million to charities, community groups and local organisations via our Community Champions scheme. Donations of up to £6,000 are available to local community and charitable groups every quarter, with applications received via the Community Champions website.
Lia Nici, MP for Great Grimsby said: “It’s fantastic that Persimmon has made the generous donation of £5,000 towards our Oasis Hub in Grimsby to support their work within the community.
“The Hub’s free youth club, family events and activities for children are very valuable to local people. The help that they give to the Nunsthorpe and surrounding areas ensures that children and families can spend quality time together, learn new skills, and feel safe and secure in a positive environment.
“I’m delighted that businesses in the area are investing in the people of Great Grimsby, and look forward to seeing what more fantastic work the Oasis Hub team do with this donation.”
Michelle Donner, Hub Leader at Oasis Hub South Grimsby, said: “This funding from Persimmon has meant we can support young people in the community via our youth club.
“We work to maximise our young people’s lives: this means something different for every young person.
“Our youth club offers young people a safe space allowing them a social space to meet and make friends; gives them the opportunity to try new things and builds relationships. All these things support their access to education in the future. Thank you!”
Mark Parker, Managing Director of Persimmon South Yorkshire, commented: “At Persimmon, we want to leave a meaningful impact on the communities we operate.
“Through our Community Champions scheme, we provide grants to local community groups and charities making a real difference in their local areas.
“Our Regency Meadows development is just under two miles from the Oasis Community Hub South Grimsby so it’s fantastic to support a local cause doing such positive work for young people and families.
“It’s been great to see first-hand the work Oasis does and we hope this donation will help enable them to continue the fantastic work they do here in Grimsby.”
