Community funding to help Norwich seniors
04 November 2020
Persimmon Homes has handed over Community Champions cheques to two Norwich organisations helping to care for the elderly and vulnerable.
Norwich Door to Door and Community Action Norwich have each been awarded £1,000 from Persimmon Homes.
John Eldridge, director in charge at Persimmon Homes Anglia, said: “The Community Champions match-funding initiative seeks to support grassroots groups and charities in areas where the company is building.”
“Over recent months we have focused particularly on projects that help the over-70s, who are most affected by the lockdown, although we now invite applications from all charities, schools, clubs and voluntary groups across the region.”
Community Action Norwich runs a day centre serving up to 40 senior members of the Lakenham and Tuckswood communities. A range of activities are offered to help combat loneliness and isolation, exercise sessions for fitness and wellbeing, nutritious meals eaten together in a sociable setting, and regular outings for fun and friendship.
Norwich Door to Door is a well-established charity which provides a specialist door-to-door minibus service for elderly and disabled people, with priority given to those on low incomes and unable to access public transport. More than 500 registered users benefit from the service to attend health appointments, visit family or friends, reach social groups and activities.
Persimmon’s donations will help both groups to continue to serve local people.
Persimmon Homes Anglia makes two donations of up to £1,000 every month. The online application form can be found at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity
