Consent granted for 850 new homes at Bradwell
22 October 2014
Planners have given the green light to 850 new homes at Bradwell, on the outskirts of Great Yarmouth.
Persimmon Homes aims to start work on the site, on Beccles Road, early in September, following approval by the Great Yarmouth Borough Council Planning Committee and overwhelming local support for the scheme.
Martin Davidson, planning director for Persimmon Homes Anglia, said: “Before we submitted a planning application for this site we undertook a public consultation with the parish council and community, so we were confident that our proposals clearly reflected what is needed in the area and had been carefully considered by local people.”
The development, to be known as Bluebell Meadow, will include 850 homes, a new primary school, a small retail area and significant play areas and public open space.
Martin added: “There will also be a site for a medical centre, 30 acres of employment land and a new A12-A143 link road, partly funded by the Government, to help to open up this major new neighbourhood.”
Potential buyers are invited to register their interest in Bluebell Meadow via the Persimmon Homes website to be first to find out when properties are released for sale.
The Government estimates around 300,000 new homes need to be built each year to meet the demand that has grown since the economic downturn of 2008. It has put in place a raft of measures, such as a review of planning regulations, providing finance for large-scale infrastructure projects and helping individuals to access affordable mortgages through schemes like Help to Buy.
