Cornwall region donates signage to Cornwall College

22 September 2022

Cornwall College has received a donation of construction-related signs from our Cornwall region.

Cornwall region has donated several health and safety signs that will be erected in the College’s ‘Skills Centre’.

The signs will ensure construction students of all trades from bricklayers to carpenters have a greater awareness of working on a ‘live site’ environment.

The donation was made earlier this month by Regional Apprenticeship Manager, Andy Wallis, and received by a number of College representatives, including the Head, David Atkinson-Beaumont, and Andy Phillips, Curriculum Area Manager for Construction.

Commenting on the donation, Persimmon’s Andy Wallis said:

“With many developments across Cornwall, we know how important it is to support local construction students and help develop a diverse, talented workforce for the years ahead.

“Demand for new homes for Cornish people shows no sign of slowing, so it is vital we maintain a pipeline of fully trained talent to meet the needs of the local economy.

“That’s why we are working very closely with Cornwall College in an effort to help local students learn their trade, offering assistance where possible and hands-on experience in construction.

“We’d like to think that some of today’s students at the College will progress into apprenticeships and fulfilling careers within the industry – and with Persimmon in Cornwall.”

Andy Phillips, Curriculum Area Manager for Construction, said the College was ‘grateful’ to Persimmon Homes and added:

“As a Career College, we strive to make learning as realistic as possible, mirroring the standards set on modern construction sites.

“Thanks to the relationship, support and ongoing partnership with Persimmon, Cornwall College is providing a learning environment that’ll shape and prepare the next generation of construction workers for careers with local, regional and national employers.

“This donation is just one example of how Persimmon Homes Cornwall is supporting the College’s aspirational learning experience.”
