Creating a glam vibe
12 March 2021
First time buyers, Emma and Louis didn’t let a national lockdown get in the way of moving into their new home and creating a buzz on Instagram as a Persimmon Homes Ambassador.
Emma Hendry and Louis O’Brien moved into their two-bedroom Portree at the Mosswater View development in August 2020. Keen to create a classy yet glamorous vibe Emma wasted no time getting started on decoration and accessorising her home with stunning results. Emma’s Instagram account, @homeofegh now has more than 4,500 followers thanks to her features, mood boards and stories that have included easy ways to up-cycle furniture, create beautiful homemade flower displays using designer bags, DIY panelling and general hints and tips.
Emma, a money manager at Barclays Bank in Glasgow, said being close to the train station for work and within easy reach of family and friends meant that the Portree at Mosswater View was exactly what they were both looking for in a first home. “I love the stairs in the living room and the bedrooms are a great size, it was the perfect for just us two. “The house was already built at the point of reservation, silly as it may sound it was the ‘newness’ that we fell in love with, it was a completely blank canvas, so clean, fresh and shiny. We managed a few house stalks while we waited, we were so excited to move in and get started."
“Much of my inspiration comes from Instagram and Pinterest, I like to take one item and build my ideas around it. I styled our bedroom starting from just two beige fringed cushions and developed the theme around them with complimenting colours and textures – in fact it’s now my sanctuary and favourite room in the house.”
Their Portree two-bedroom home is a popular choice for first time buyers. Deciding to turn the second bedroom into her dressing room Emma has managed to maximise use of the space. Her combination of neutral tones and monochrome with black accents and accessories throughout the house has resulted in the classy vibe she was trying to achieve, she said: “This is our perfect first home and step onto the property adder. Eventually we would love to renovate a four or five bedroom detached house as our forever home but in reality, I’m impatient and will probably go for another newbuild when the time is right to move.”
Just six months after moving into their home, Emma and Louis have firmly stamped their style on the house. They love the panelled sitting room, their main bedroom and Emma’s must-have dressing room. Emma can’t wait for the summer to start, “The summer months are my absolute favourite, the sunshine lifts my mood and provides natural lighting for my Instagram posts of the house.”
