Creative children create creations

12 August 2011

Children from Manorfield C of E Primary School in Stoney Stanton have been busy snipping and sewing as they put their creative minds to the test and entered Persimmon Homes North Midland’s recently launched competition to find a fashion star.

Persimmon Homes North Midlands set Year 5 the challenge to take part in the fashion competition where they are tasked with turning old rags into new fashion statement pieces as part of a re-cycling project.

“With 54 pupils entering, the competition is fierce and we will be picking the top 20 creations to go on and appear in our fashion show at St Georges Place in September by the beginning of the new school year. Entries are coming in along the way and delighted with the response so far,” explained Mariana Knight, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North Midlands.

She continued: “The children are having such a great time pulling their designs together and the first ones we saw recently were absolutely fabulous!

“Working with the school on this project is such fun as well as providing the children with the opportunity to learn about re-cycling and the importance of utilising things rather than just throwing them in the bin.

“Whilst 20 designs will be showcased on the catwalk in September, all the children from Year 5 will take part as we certainly will need a few lighting experts and musicians to make the event even more special.”

Leanne Marshall, Year 5 teacher at Manorfield C of E Primary School, added: “We are delighted to be working with Persimmon on this project. The subject of re-cycling is so important and this is just a great way to help children understand the importance of re-using things. They are enjoying taking part and are all looking forward to the fashion show in September.”
