A football club that unites the community in Lakenheath is celebrating after being handed a cash donation to support their teams.
Lakenheath FC received a cheque for £3,000 from Persimmon Suffolk to help fund their pitch maintenance, their youth teams and new kit. The team play in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division (Eastern Counties League) and have been established since 1907, putting them at the heart of the community.
Claire Lock, Club Treasurer, applied for the grant through our Community Champions fund which is available to clubs, organisations and schools, as well as individuals who are pursuing their dream. She said: “We are grateful for this donation, it will go a long way in supporting the club and providing facilities for all of our players, from youth teams to the first team. We are a close-knit community here in Lakenheath and the club is an important hub for the village.”
Ian Hamilton, Managing Director at Persimmon Suffolk, said: “We are always keen to support clubs like Lakenheath FC which play such an important role in bringing communities together and we are delighted to hear the donation will make a difference to the whole club. At Persimmon Homes we build more than just houses, we want to support communities and create a lasting legacy within those areas where we are building.”
Persimmon Suffolk have recently been granted planning permission to build 139 homes west of Eriswell Road in the village, with 42 of these homes available to those in housing need locally.
