Devon Air Ambulance boosted by donation from South West

Devon Air Ambulance has received the backing from South West region.

The money comes through our Community Champions scheme, which donates up to £64,000 every month to good causes across Great Britain.

Devon Air Ambulance provides a vital service across the county, with two emergency helicopters delivering expert time-critical care to patients wherever they may be.

The organisation also has two critical care cars, which enable clinicians to reach more urban, built-up areas swiftly and remain operational when poor weather or essential maintenance prevents the aircraft from flying.

Commenting on the donation, Devon Air Ambulance’s corporate engagement and lottery manager, Tracy Owen, said:

“We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes South West for this generous donation. Our life-saving crew travel the length and breadth of Devon and beyond, carrying an essential critical care kit whether they arrive by land or by air. 

“One vital piece of equipment within the kit is the Laryngoscope. When oxygen can’t reach a patient’s lungs, this is used to correctly place a tube into the patient’s windpipe to help manage their airway.

“Our current laryngoscopes now require replacement after six years of service and ideally, we'd like to be able to purchase four – one for each mode of transport to ensure that whichever way our crew responds to an emergency, they will always have the best equipment to hand to help save the patient’s life.

“The sponsorship from Persimmon is very warmly received and will make a significant difference to our fundraising target."
