Durham SEN School celebrate £5,000 cash boost
24 August 2023

Durham Trinity School and Sports College is celebrating after securing a £5,000 donation from Persimmons Durham office.
The school received the £5,000 donation after applying through our Community Champions scheme.
Headteacher Rachel Grimwood and Assistant Head Teacher Fiona Day welcomed the donation from Persimmon Sales Director Andrew Somerville in the presence of Durham County Councillor Ted Henderson.
The money will be used to purchase a new set of iPads for pupils, meaning there will now be two iPads per classroom to help enhance and track pupils personal learning aims.
It will also allow the school to better connect with parents and carers through specialist applications which can be used to share pupils progress both at school and at home.
Our Community Champions scheme is open to all local charities, schools and community groups looking for funding. £180,000 is available every quarter with winners receiving either £6,000, £5,000 or £1,000.
Rachel Grimwood, Headteacher at Durham Trinity School and Sports College said:
“On behalf of everyone at the school I would like to say a huge thank you to Persimmon for the generous £5,000 donation.
“The new iPads will not only allow our children’s digital learning to be enhanced but also allow us to connect with their parents and carers on a better level.
“We are incredibly passionate about providing our students with the best opportunity to succeed in life and this donation will certainly help us achieve that goal.”
Councillor Ted Henderson, Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People’s Services at Durham County Council, said;
“I was delighted to visit Durham Trinity School recently to learn more about the school and how the addition of new technology, such as iPads, can have a hugely positive impact on their children.
“Seeing a local business, such as Persimmon, engage with local schools through their Community Champions scheme is brilliant. It is important that we all support our local communities where we can and look to leave a positive legacy for the next generation.”
Andrew Somerville, Sales Director at Persimmon Durham, added;
“At Persimmon we care about leaving a lasting positive legacy in the communities that we build in.
“We are always delighted to support local schools through our Community Champions scheme and support some fantastic initiatives.
“It was great to meet Rachel and her team and some of the pupils at the school. We hope this donation helps support the fantastic work and learning environment that the schools provides.”
